In 2008, aware of the non-existence of a platform that gathers emergency services staff involved with the European Emergency Number 112, EENA - the European Emergency Number Association - decided to set up the first Europe-wide 112 Emergency Services Staff Network (ESSN). Membership is free and open to all and only to emergency services staff involved directly or indirectly with the 112 (first responders, managers, call takers, tehnicals, operators, paramedics, ambulance staff, fire-fighters, police officers, coastguards, search and rescue organisations, etc.) in the EU as well as in non-EU Countries.

Some examples of contributions from 112 ESSN members
Position Paper - PSAP expert working group on PSAP eCall requirements
Even though the article was written in 2006 it addresses vital questions concerning the performance in network and call handling of emergency calls. It is a result of the work of the e-call steering group, a small working party from the PSAP side which was organised to draft the requirements on e-call. These requirements more or less had been drafted previously, however the authors of the document made the effort to consolidated and enable a swift take-up and implementation of e-call.
112 and people with disabilities
Accessibility of the 112 is an important issue. However the starting point here is to understand that the definitions and the criteria for determining disability depend on the national legislation and other administrative instances which differ from country to country. The lack of a clear definition partly explains the lack of statistics and figures on disability in Europe. However, we should keep in mind that the main objective of the accessibility of the 112 is to enable each person in a distress situation to access emergency services despite the differences in definitions.
Cyprus - Proposal for an optimal design of 112 for management and/or monitoring of events/calls by the involved Authorities
The optimization of the emergency calls management and monitoring is an important issue. The complete transparency and interfacing of all actions will enable the involved Authorities to optimize their performance and subsequently to optimize the service level to the citizens. Most important of all is the minimization of the time respond and the spherical approach concept for the provision of organized help to the caller to 112. Those well organized and coordinated actions in combination with the level of service to the citizens, shall, in return, enhance the State's image.
