The 3rd 112 Awards Ceremony will be held at the occasion of the joint European Parliament/European Commission media event on 112 on 10 February 2009 in Brussels - eve of the European 112 Day (11/2/2009). The 112 Awards Ceremony intends to recognize and congratulate individuals and organizations which have significantly contributed to a better 112. This will be a very high-level event with the participation of European Commissioners, European Commission Staff, Members of the European Parliament, representatives from the Presidency of the European Union, industry organisations and emergency services. Large media coverage is expected in a prestigious location named Palais d'Egmont, the official venue of the Belgium Ministry of Foreign Affairs for diplomatic receptions, located in the heart of Brussels.

REACH112 Project selected by the European Commission

The European Commission officially announced on Friday, 24 October, 2008, the selection of the project REACH112 - Responding to all citizens needing help - that intends to improve the accessibility of the EU emergency services for people with disabilities as well as person-to-person communication. REACH112 is a project proposed by the EENA Advisory Board, launched as part of the 112 Excellence Centre concept that intends to support the upgrading of 112 emergency services and highlight them as best practices in Europe. France, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom have been the 5 pilot countries selected for this 9 million Euros project.

Successful Roundtable on 112 organised in Poland

On 3 November, EENA coorganised with MEP Saryusz-Wolski from the EPP-ED group and the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs a Roundtable on 112 in Warsaw. This event was attended by more than 100 Polish and international stakeholders who exchanged views on education to the 112, call handling and the 112 of the future.

This roundtable on 112 was the second one, following the event organised in Romania in February 2008. The next Roundtables will be held in Bulgaria (March 2009), Lithuania, Greece, Italy and Hungary, with the following objectives:

  • Provide national emergency authorities with a roadmap on how to best tackle the problems and challenges related to the implementation and functioning of the European emergency number 112 in their country
  • Share experience and best practices with European and international experts.
  • Enable national stakeholders to meet and speak up their position.

Amendment on the EU Budget accepted

EENA's amendment to the EU budget has officially been accepted by the European Parliament. Therefore, some funding will be available to deploy "across the EU interoperable emergency services and 112 for all citizens, enabling quicker, more efficient reactions and life saving, inter alia through a remodelling of the traditional emergency calling technical architecture and a lowering of its cost and complexity, with the ultimate aim to provide an optimal answer to 112 calls made by all citizens, including users with disabilities."

Lifebadge

The same way a car needs its own carebook, everybody should have its own medical documents folder. A lot of situations can drive to an emergency department : accidents or deseases. Anyway, doctors need to know about the medical history of the patient because these informations give the doctor the right way to provide good and rapid treatments. Sometimes, it can be vital : for example, administration of a drug to which the patient has an allergy can kill him in few seconds ! It's also very important to know about actual drug treatment to avoid negative interactions with new ones.
Generally, even if conscious, patients are not able to report all their history and it takes more than 20 to 30 minutes to get it ... if patient and doctor speak the same language ...

So it's quite important to have a "medical memory" 24h/24, 365 days a year, in case of.

This is the purpose of LIFEBADGE.
